Dining Hotspots
Just a few doors away, in Noorderstraat, we have a great local steak house, Piet de Leeuw (in business for over 75 years) and one of the best Thai restaurants, Sukhothai Thanee. In the direction of De Pijp a great local Japanese called An.
For more simple food, over the bridge on Prinsengracht is an excellent Bagels coffee café, Village Bagels, and next door a simple ramen restaurant, Tokyo Ramen Takeichi. They also have another, larger branch with more choice, nearby in the Kerkstraat.
Also just around the corner is one of Amsterdam’s local hotspots, Patisserie Holtkamp, in our view one of the finest patisseries in The Netherlands. They make delicious biscuits, cakes and meringues.
We can highly recommend all of of these as we have personally tested them (and more than once). Some of them may require a reservation in advance due to their popularity. All are within a couple of minutes walk. We also provide more restaurant tips in both the local area and other areas of Amsterdam for our guests.
Culture Hotspots Amsterdam
We are situated in a unique location for access to all forms of culture: museums, theatres, concert and opera venues, nightlife, comedy venues, and markets.
Both of the lively city squares of Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein are within 12 minutes walking distance and The Rijksmuseum within ten minutes. Just beyond is Museum Square with the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk and MoMA contemporary art museums, and the Concertgebouw, (Royal Concert Hall). Please be aware the museums require you to reserve a time slot in advance of your visit.
We are close to De Pijp, a local area of Amsterdam which has the famous Albert Cuyp Market, the Heineken Brewery Museum and many excellent local restaurants, cafés and bars based around small squares and local streets.
The antique shopping street Spiegelstraat with its stores and galleries is a 5 minute walk away as is the Utrechtsestraat with its upmarket boutiques, the only remaining and excellent old fashioned record store for virtually all kinds of music, Concerto, and specialised bookstores, and great cafes and restaurants.
The famous little ‘nine streets’, (De 9 Straatjes), with their boutique shops, cafés, and tik tok craze are within 20 minutes walk. Halfway en route to them is the world renowed flower market right next to the gay street, Reguliersdwarsstraat. Further on are the Anne Frank House and the Jordaan area, not to mention the beautiful canals themselves which help guide you to all these places.
The theatres Carré, DeLaMar, Stadsschouwburg, and Boom Chicago are all close by. The Opera House is also within 20 minutes distance albeit in the other direction. We are just in between everything.
We highly recommend you take one of the many boat tours of Amsterdam if you haven’t done so before.
We’ll also happily help you with suggestions and directions in advance and while you’re staying with us.
